The Packers made it three straight titles by controversially finishing one game ahead of Portsmouth in the standings. The Packers won back-to-back championships, securing the title by blocking an extra point in the season’s final week, finishing with a tie against Portsmouth. The Packers and Giants were both unbeaten heading into their November 24th game at the Polo Grounds, and the 20-6 win by the Packers set them up as undefeated first-time champions. The Packers actually began to play in 1919, a year before the NFL was formed, but they were an independent football team that played only against local teams in Wisconsin and Michigan’s upper peninsula. ![]()
